The 27th European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV) conference was held on 17th-20th September 2025 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Takeda UK presents an audio podcast with Dr. Lucy Rivett (Virology and Infectious Diseases Consultant at UKHSA and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust), and Kelly Bicknell (Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology at Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust) highlighting key topics and themes from the conference.
Areas covered include:
• CMV in Transplantation
• Viral Hepatitis
• Emerging Infections
In the Transplantation section they discuss the keynote speech by Oriol Manuel of Switzerland on immune monitoring of CMV in transplant recipients. The session includes updates to the Fourth International Consensus Guidelines on CMV management in solid organ transplant, focussing on diagnostics, prophylaxis and treatment strategies.
They also share insights from Husam Osman’s late breaking talk about the University Hospitals Birmingham audit on maribavir use in refractory CMV infections. This UK real world experience data includes 22 patients treated for refractory CMV following either solid organ or stem cell transplant. It delves into treatment duration, patient outcomes and resistance patterns.
