How safe are health tests on UK supermarket shelves?

The British Medical Journal reported on new studies that suggest some commercially available health tests are inaccurate and unsuitable for public use. In the article, I raised concerns around quality, regulation and appropriateness, commenting that: “there are significant risks to patients when poor quality tests are carried out inappropriately, with both false reassurance and unnecessary consequences for the NHS to repeat tests or take additional action.” The story was also covered by the BBC, Telegraph, Independent and Sun.
